Azumi is the local parlance for Ramadan. It is originally a Hausa word but has made its way to many communities and tribes in Ghana.
Azumi or fasting has different names in different languages. “Kyiri wia” in twi.
Ramadan/Azumi has different names in different languages. This goes to prove that Islam is not for only a certain group of people. There are Muslims who are Akan, Ewe, Yoruba, Fante, Sissala and all the beautiful languages you know.
Importantly, our experience of Ramadan may be different but there are so many similarities as well.
